Exclusive Interview with “Sweets”
Q: “In Orkfia your known under the nickname “Sweets”, what do people call you irl?”
A: “Debbie, Mom, Sweets.”
Q: “Tell us a little bit about you, where are you from?”
A: “I’m from Ontario, Canada – not too far from Toronto. 49, married with 3 adult children. I’m a computer operator for a digital print company.
I play competitive badminton. Played online games for 10 or 12 years, and have been hopelessly addicted to orkfia since almost the beginning.”
Q: “How did your Orkfian experience start?”
A: “I was playing that ‘other’ game and a few kingdomates knew modo – recruited us to test out this new game.”
Editorial note: Orkfia was created by MoDo & Kadagar back in 2001 to be a better alternative for Utopia
Q: “Do you remember what age that was?”
A: “2nd alpha – although, how far into it or how long it lasted, i don’t know.
I played all the betas.”
Q: “Which version of Orkfia do you play?”
A: “Infinity (Alliances at War)”
Q: “You are part of the Alliances at War staff, what is your job there?”
A: “Head of operations, we’re really about supporting the players. Answering questions, helping them with settling into alliances, just generally insuring that players have all the tools they need to have a good Orkfian experience.”
Q: “How long have u been a staffmember?”
A: “The exact time is long forgotten but Frost was headadmin and the “resorts” had just been formed, Ulysses invited me to work with the R&D staff.”
Q: “How is it to be one of the few females in the game?”
A: “I don’t know how it would be any different than being a male in the game. You might think that being female one would have more empathy but I think that the women of Orkfia are all just as ruthless as the men, perhaps more so.
“
Q: “How do you look upon the competition for players between the two Orkfian versions?”
A: “Since all players are welcome to play both versions, I’m not aware of ‘competion’. If it exists, it should not.”
Q: “If you had the ability to add anything at all to the game what would that be?”
A: “Players, of course. The game is fundamentally great, but it does require a larger player base to keep it entertaining. It’s demanding for any form of entertainment to be ‘on’ all the time. Can you imagine playing a sport 24/7 month after month? Or any game – poker? A large community helps keep Orkfia vibrant. Any change to favour the community is a positive one.”
Q: “If you had the ability to remove something, anything at all from the game, what would that be?”
A: “another tough question! Off the top of my head, I can’t honestly think of anything I’d like totally removed. Even those that abuse the game – or stretch the rules, I’d rather they ‘changed’ their ways than be removed!”
Q: “With the online gamers seeking newer and more graphical games.
How do you think orkfia will survive in time?”
A: “As long as Orkfia can offer unique gaming, and I believe it does, it will flourish. I don’t think it will ever appeal to a massive audience,
but I think it’ll be around for a while yet.”
Q: “Is there anything special you would like to say to a player that are new to Orkfia?”
A: “The rules appear to be a bit overwhelming when first joining,
but get active in the community and don’t hesitate to ask for help,
stick around for a few weeks and you’re sure to have a great time and meet some terrific people.”
