Incarnation vs Super villains ~ By Guran ~

War Reports11 comments

Brief history
For a while there has been a small conflict between my alliance and the Super Villains. Their previous elder Magneto had been attacking us for way too long, so we hit back and killed Magneto with a combination of DA and FB. Of course they didn’t like this, and the conflict grew more intense until I made an agreement with their elder to continue our normal ways rather than focus on each other.

But hey, they are villains, and villains are simply evil. They proved it and declared a war on a way-too-early time in the morning. They probably wanted to surprise us. Well they succeeded on that, but I wonder if they realised that my alliance was already in warmode?

Violent opening.
Bwam, Photoboy fell almost immediatly. Fully confident that the conflict was over, Photoboy had taken a well-earned rest. Not knowing the enemy was using DM and DA on him. They killed him right after declaring on us.

Unfortunatly, I was way too busy to check on my tribe (busy in that life outside Orkfia, yes, it exists). So it wasn’t untill 10:00 in the morning that I noticed the war. But to be honest, that doesn’t matter. For my alliance knows exactly what has to be done in case of declared war. And there were people who already killed Storm to settle the score. This was with the help of Vodaphone, yes really, they called Sonic early in the morning, waking him up after which he checked on his tribe.

With storm down, we aimed for the smaller tribes who could be easily dispatched. Sonic and M3 gave them a long sleep. Of course, with some assistance from the rest of us.

Their biggest mistake.
I admit, the Super villains look impressive and they have some big ass sizes, but they made a big mistake on their next target. They went for Mira…..

Probably they expected that they could kill a dragon with ease. Well, being a woman, Mira is way too stubborn to die. She was rained by fb, dm etc etc.

But with five minutes of her time, and the assistance of brood (love the spell), all their attacks were rendered futile.

M3’s lines
I promised M3 ten lines if we won this fight. But since that won’t be the result, he’ll only get three. Which is a good thing because I probably can’t write ten.

1. After being away for some time, the Au…. uhm M3 made a splendid return. Precisely on the right time. He said the enemy would be sorry. I like that timing.

2. M3 has made splendid kills this war, and he has been taunting the enemy.

3. Damn, can’t even think off three….uhm, oh yeah, M3 is really active and barely sleeps:p

The war continues.
The battle was already turned in our favour. Despite all the messages we received ["we’re gonna grind you into the ground!"], nothing bad seemed to happen.

At least our opponents are possitive thinkers.

For the next target we decided on the eagle, Galactus. It began very good. But at that point I fell over and slept, man was I tired.

When I woke up Galactus seemed alive, but the two oop-coming guys were dead….again. So since Galactus was already prepared for his downfall, we worked further on him.

The first test was to keep pestilence on his feathered bottom. Then we followed up with fb and…

Hit n run. Yup, we used hit n run for we couldn’t raid or anything and we killed fairly a lot citizen this way. And we kept the pestilence cycle up. Resulting in a lot of pestilence on our side. A matter which Sonic and I took very serious:

Guran:
oh, no. 20 of my citizens will die next update

Sonic:
just 20?

Guran:
yeah, that is what it says in internal affairs

Sonic:
i lose 27, damn

Guran:
we better be careful, or we drop dead before 42 attacks

Sonic:
we dont want that to happen

Guran:
indeed

In the meantime, some people noticed the activity of our ravens. So they started to hunt them. A sport that Bloodball had been trying to do for some time now.

Galactus appeared to be a better player then we expected, he built loads of churches. And we made a few little mistakes as well. But don’t worry its not over yet….

Saturday 23:00 Orkfia time, Galactus was down to 8k citizens. And even though he was attackable now, he did survive. You have earned my respect Galactus.

The battle ends.
Aaaah, its a truce while we so hoped to come out the victor. But I guess we all have to keep on learning and keep on trying. So that Orkfia wants to see us just as dead as they want the Karma Police in their graves. We’ve got a way to go, but we got good players (although SOME might need an attitude twitch:p)

And for 42, too bad, but don’t give up. Keep smiling and have fun, it doesn’t matter if you win, lose or truce, as long as you do it with a good smile on your face and learned a lot doing it.

And for the tribes that were killed: In Orkfia, Life is short, but death even shorter

Motivation.
What the heck? You warred a bootcamp? Coward! Wait let me explai….. Coward. Give me just a…Coward! Damn you little voice in my head, shut up.

Alright, that settled, I’ll explain the situation. As many may have noticed, probably because their food was poisoned, we have some massive famerapers. But hey, thats what you get with cobra’s they are simply poisonous, its in his nature.

This massive fame boost brought us to the second place on the famelist, not far from the Karma Police.

I…uhm we became hungry for more and wanted to put them from the number one fame position. And how do you gain a lot of fame at once? Right, by butchering another alliance during war.

But our only possible target was the ork school, it didn’t feel good to butcher newbies. But since they were higher in both strength and land and had a lot of tribes we could not even hit, while they could hit us with ease, it felt a lot better. Besides, it was for a good cause.

Warplan.
It wasn’t difficult to come up with a strategy, just work from the bottom up. The first thing I did, was sending the bootcamp coach a PM: Prepare your tribes. We’ll be coming soon.

And I kept to my word, we came.

The battle begun with fierce attacks from our ravens. It was night for me, so I went to bed early. The nightbreakers and our Australian raven knew what to do, so that was all fine. Before retiring to my bedroom I did one raid and decided to come out during night to make one more hit……but I overslept.

When I woke up it seemed M3 tasted blood. The killing had begun, giving us the advantage. As the war dragged on the strategy part became more complicated. The easiest tribes were eliminated, and there were two posible targets. Nkninja, the eagle and one of their vikings. And with everyone shouting suggestions and some out of Orkfia stimuli, it soon resulted into chaos(not the one in #15). In the end I just yelled: “KILL the fucking eagle.” Oh, wait I only thought that, but I did order the execution of the eagle. It was around that moment that Cobra claimed to be capable of killing the big ass viking by himself. Well, I wanted to see him do this.

Ouch, its a virus.
When I suggested doomsday in my new races topic the replies were “way too overpowered.”

I was like: “Why”

After being under EV for 7 hours (acumulated) I’m like “oh, thats why.”

And I wasn’t the only one, Sonic and Zxzxi fell to the virus as well. Luckily the threat never grew all to big, but this hurt more then anything before. Furthermore their side remained pretty calm and aimed more for survival then beating us. Still there were some retreats and some nasty spells and ops.

Victory.
The war ended in our favour. Although we had to kill tribes that came out of protection, it felt a little low. But luckily it was soon over. The battle ended in our favour. Wheely? Yes, Wheely.

5k fame.
5000 fame behind KP. At that moment, it felt like the war only just begun. But soon I regained my senses. The power hungry me was replaced by the wise leader. I realised what KP would do if they saw that black 2 on their alliance page meant they were second in fame. Ten seconds of fame would’nt be worth it to end in their meatloaf.

Besides. Those ten seconds might have ended in resets. There are some tribes in the alliance who never shake of old habits.

Good job Ork school, hope you had a good first war experience, one day you may come and kill us for what we did. For now, train and learn from what you saw. I too had an Orkfia teacher once and he taught me important things, I’ll repeat them to you: have fun, keep smiling and speak soon.

War Report: Incarnation vs -vLC- aLLi@nC3

~ By Guran from one of the most war hungry alliances in ORKFiA.. Incarnation. ~

Introduction:
Man, what a team. Suddenly, out of nowhere I seem to have gained new team members. And the funny thing is, they came from the alliances I previously warred against. Talk about plot twists.

Now for this war, our original plan was to war alliance #67, Manchester United. But after M3 joined we were suddenly out of their range. I was looking at the vLC dudes for some time, they had bothered my alliance before, but if it was the right time….that was the question.

Officially, there were no more warplans. It was just a normal day, A nice standard attack here, a training there, you know the deal.

Suddenly M3 came with the message that one of the vLC tribes had only 200 or 300 citizens. If there was any time to declare war on them it was that one moment, with three of our armies out, the enemy online and one of their tribes with hardly any citizens, we simply had to declare a war.

Silent War
It had begun. The plan was to start with Silver Star, his citizens were ridiculously low. Cobra rained fireballs. M3 had to retreat before 80k priestess of which he thought it only were 3430 (or something like that). But that didn’t matter, after 90 minutes, he was toast. After that we found out that none of them were high in citizens. Nice one.

The Battle.
Tails attacked, overwhelming the forces of our next target: Scorpz. He took 57 acres for himself. After that I raided the guy and was of course followed up. Cobra, Photoboy and Zxzxi attacked filled with fury, draining the citizens from Scorpz away.

Tauge Buuu, the biggest tribe from our enemy landed a big hit on Zxzxi, he took 119 acres. Ouch, that stung.

But don’t worry, Tails attacked once more, a raid this time, this time acompanied by Uchiha. I was sure about it. Scorpz would never see dusk.

No rest, no mercy, no matter what.

The 17:00 update was aproaching and the tension was growing. This would be the most important hour during the war. And exciting it would be.

Silver Star came out of protection and we were discussing how we were going to kill Scorpz and him at the same time. Unfortunatly he was raided to death, so our path was clear.

Uchiha hit Scorpz, killing him sooner than I had hoped. Brilliant.

Now we aimed for Tensai. For some reason his army was out (he didn’t hit us, even though he was more then capable to do so). He had only 3200 citizens. I raided. Cobra raided. We threw fireballs. He was at the brink of his own demise within fifteen minutes. And there was Zxzxi to finish him off…FIREBALL!!!!

…..1 citizen left…what the..?????

Poor lonely citizen, luckily Photoboy sent out thieves to give him some company, oh, and to kill him. Winning us the war, seven hours after the start.

Victory.
The enemy was capable to hit us, they were active, but seemed to completely ignore us. During this war I had a great team. Great teamwork and good activity. They might not be super big, or super duper veterans, but they are all good players, knowing what to do in wars. And players you can be proud of, in both victory and defeat.

War Report: Incarnation vs Lone Ravens

~ By Guran of Incarnation (#35) ~

The Day was Sunday, Time: way too early. I woke up and didn’t feel all too well, I just couldn’t stay in bed, so I got out. I checked on my tribe, to find Photoboy telling me that the Lone Ravens declared war upon us. Well, since those ravens had already killed half (if not more) of the smaller alliances it would only be a matter of time until they came for us.

There had been some changes in my team since the war against the Leaf Clan. Maestro and Vre Dragher decided to go to a more competitive alliance. But my ranks were enforced by an old alliance mate of mine. Enter the Cobra. And someone who made a tribe a few hours before, but I do not know who he is.

The battle begins.
Kaboom! Luck was our ally during their first attack, they both had to retreat before me and Zxzxi. Giving us a nice opportunity to attack. We aimed for M3, I went first with standard attack and took 100 acres. Cobra followed up for 63 acres. Good start. After that Cobra and Photoboy started to famerape M3.

However, they were still ravens and came again. They went for Photoboy and Sosron (the newly created tribe). The hits were effective, luckily Photoboy managed to land a hit inbetween. Luckily Zxzxi woke up as well and started raiding. There were now four of us, but as ravens, they could fight like eight men.

Messing up bigtime
We couldn’t let them swarm over us like this. So Photoboy pulled out his big calculator. He calculated that I had to train 2500 harpies for a successful raid. So I did and attacked…..uh-uh. Retreat. Two hours later I received a PM: 7500 should be enough…uh-uh. Retreat. So while we’re messing around with calculations and irritated harpies M3 killed poor little Sosron, bringing them very close to a victory.

Fighting on the edge.
After the first kill we noticed these guys don’t rest. But that goes for Photoboy and Cobra as well. They hit for a total of 170 acres.

The fight went on into the night, I became targeted by hit n run, while Me and M3 were taking their acres back. Unfortunatly they managed to take enough acres to win the war.

Lol, we lost.
We lost, but we had fun this war. There has been no real harm done, except for a rip from our fame. All tribes survived….one exception of course. And even if we were killed, I could always have changed the alliance name to Re-Incarnation :P

Congratulations Lone Ravens, lets do this again.

AatW War Report: Incarnation vs Leaf Clan

~ Written by Guran from #35 ~

As many may have noticed, Alliance #35 isn’t the biggest fish around. It is mainly built from solo tribes I recruited since my return as a leader in the world of Orkfia. Of course we couldn’t let our newly formed alliance be un-noticed. So I decided to declare a war on the Leaf clan, (Alliance #44). Mainly to test my alliance in war and of course because we wanted to butcher someone!

The plan was simple, I would declare war at 18:45. Everyone should do a hit close to the 19:00 update. Our target was their raven.

I was happy to see my small alliance active, Photoboy, Vre Dragher, Maestro and I were ready to start.

The First Waves

After two or three miscalculations (I hate doing calcs), Photoboy turned out to be a calculation whizzkid. After this calculation part, I attacked the raven with barren grab, he had 131 barren acres and I managed to snatch 113 of them. The others kept raiding on…all night long, brilliant! And throwing fireballs. During the night Zxzxi joined our war ranks and started raiding as well. But it was around that time that our opponent noticed they had been declared upon. They started to hit back. I took some hits, a blasphemy crusade, a raid and some DragonMages. Unfortunatly some people noticed me getting landfat and two out of war tribes went at me for some acres. But it was nothing to worry about, we had a kill to make.

Oh, Nooohwz they be stealin my kill!!!
When I woke up next morning, my faithfull tribes had brought the raven down to 300 Citizens. It was up to me now, I readied my wolfriders, sharpened the wolves teeth and blew that warhorn thingy. But then…..our target just dropped dead.

I asked Maestro to do a fly over, showing us the reason why. It seemed that M3#61 beat us to him in a fraction of some minutes, stealing our kill and the acres we needed for our warvictory.

The Second Waves
A little setback, but both alliances could still pack some punch. I restored quickly and posted up the new target. This time Shumacher was up, and after some raids and fireballs, he was down. We only needed 436 acres to win our war now. Unfortunatly their final member was pretty big for us. Only Maestro could hit with some luck, so it was up to him and his fireballs. But he couldn’t pull it off by himself. We tried of course, but in the end it became an auto truce.

View on the War
From the beginning of our declaration of wardependence I was sure we would win. My alliance friends were active, we did some good hits and we simply had a lot of fun fighting together. I hope that I’ve shown a lot of the solo tribes how fun warring in an alliance could be, and I know I reached that when looking at Vre Dragher. After the war, he decided that he wanted to play more competitive and wanted to move to a bigger alliance. Thats fine by me:p

I think we fought good and so did our enemies, alltough we didn’t give them possibility to do much. So far for this war.

Diary of last week’s wars between #27 vs #32
~ By VorteX of Karma Police (#32′s perspective hopefully to come!) ~

As #32 kept growing confidently we realized that something had to be done to stop them. They had already killed 3 of us a week before, and once nearly all our tribes were capable of using DA I started planning. We had 4 fairly nice spirits (Bolle, Jamzi, Joe, MingD,), 1 big eagle (me) and miscellaneous races including a 700 acre templar (Darkwing). We aimed to allow 5 days so that our thieves (the 4 big spirits and the eagle) would have enough credits to train thieves. 3 days passed and tragedy struck as the server went down. We hoped it would be up by evening, but it was not up by then. We thought of letting it off, until finally the server came back up, and I decided to risk it all. The money still kept coming in when the server was down, albeit without spells. However, I calculated that we had enough thieves to take on #32. The greatest effort was from Darkwing, who grew 300 acres at such a small size without the necessary defence. He did it just on time J

I had already told the others that the KT was to happen at around 1:55. However, the server only came back at 16:00, and so we did not have enough time to attack at that tick. So I postponed the KT to 3:55 ST, amid some grumbles (and understandable too) from some members. I took a look at #32 and decided the first target was to be Kotarak. The thieves trained, the mages prepared themselves, and most of us took short naps to be fresh for the KT (An incident worth mentioning: At conversion tick 12 tribes were online. I went frantic and raved for 20 mins that #32 would know what we were up to. The others thought I was having a heart attack). I nearly forgot to mention that we were NOT in war range – we would only be in range if we killed a fairly big tribe.

The alarm went off in 12 different homes, and most probably 12 different hands fumbled to quiet the alarms. @ 03:45, I saw with great satisfaction that all of our tribes were online. I quickly shook myself to try to get to my senses, and started planning the times of opping, spell casting, etc, while our Atanasfaloth and Joe+Bolle calced the homes needed (I’m hopeless at it). I decided that while the thieves should target Kot; I also decided that our mages should go for lepel 1 tick after since I reckoned that they were not full yet. KT came and the thieves went all out for Kot. The vision showed he still had 60k citz. I was quickly starting to doubt my decisions; it was not the first time my war plan failed miserably. However, I quickly realized that we had enormous firepower since we were in ultra-full war mode. 04:59 came and the thieves got enough homes to get down Kot; Lepel was dead as well. 05:00 tick came, and I instructed the others to get Kot down, and to leave lepel untouched at 200 citz. Kot was dead (Tank) and the war was declared… but lepel was nowhere near dead. We were very happy about the result with Kota, but a lot had still to be done to win the war.

In that tick I changed the target; Mr. Sanzo was to be our first kill in that war. Lepel was after all an efficient 7k acre spirit, and we needed full-opping on him to get him. Mr. Sanzo was a much easier target: without any effort he was killed the tick after (again, our Tank killed him), and the war bonus kicked in giving us back our thieves and half our mps. Again, I asked our Calcing Team to recalc the homes needed to get lepel, showing that about 300 homes more were needed. We were pretty much all full, so I decided that a double kill would be possible. Our thieves went for Sile (vaspaoul) this time, while our mages went for lepel again. The plan succeeded magnificiently, as both Sile and Lepel died (Jamzi and Atan) the tick after amidst the joy of our alli. Tiia came online at that time, along with Sanzo, and since Tiia was a co-elder, she decided to accept defeat and our alliance won the 1st war after only 2 hours.

To be continued…

Results of the first Orkfian Survey – May 2008

The Orkfian Times3 comments

I made a short survey earlier this month which I posted in the AatW and Classic forums. In addition there were further answers pm’ed to staff in response to mailers sent out by Martel and Acwder. The survey was left running for just over 3 weeks, there were a few duplications due to people playing both versions of the games so those were taken out and we were left with 76 unique questionnaires. I collected the results today and have grouped similar answers together to give us an overall summary of the kind of people you are..the kind of people that play Orkfia… (NB question 1 on the survey was “what is your name” but I didn’t think there was any point in grouping those answers ;) )

Q1: When did you first play Orkfia?
Answers were as follows:
1 Year or less = 2 Orkfians
2 years or less = 10 Orkfians
3 years or less = 11 Orkfians
4 years or less = 4 Orkfians
5 years or more = 49 Orkfians
————————————————-
Q2: How did you hear about Orkfia?
Answers were as follows:
Another game/forum = 7 Orkfians
Through Utopia specifically = 12 Orkfians
A voting site = 2 Orkfians
Google search for a new game to play = 2 Orkfians
“My Brother” = 7 Orkfians
Friend = 26 Orkfians
Specifically School friends = 14 Orkfians
Work Colleagues = 2 Orkfians
Not sure = 4 Orkfians
———————————————–
Q3: Do you play both Classic and AatW (Alliances at War/Infinity)?
Answers:

Yes, I play/have played both = 30 Orkfians
Just AatW = 29 Orkfians
Just Classic = 17 Orkfians

Some people also commented here that they hadn’t known they could play on both servers at once, 2 people from AatW commented they would now look into Classic also. However there were also a few comments that people had tried Classic and then gone back to AatW for various reasons.
————————————————-
Q4: Have you ever been in the Orkfia Internet Relay Chat (IRC) Channels? If not, why not?
Yes = 55 Orkfians
No = 21 Orkfians

The majority of people had tried IRC at some point, it was common to see comments like “I went there once for 2 hours and no one spoke to me so I have never gone back“, some people also just hadn’t thought about going on IRC and others went on IRC only for their alliance channel but commented they had all the friends they need there so see no need to come to the main #orkfia channel.
————————————————
General Information:
The age range of Orkfians who took part in the survey went from 15 to 59, with the breakdown as follows:
Age 17 and under: 14 Orkfians
Age 18 – 21: 19 Orkfians
Age 22 – 25: 17 Orkfians
Age 26 – 34: 15 Orkfians
Age 35 – 45: 4 Orkfians
Age 45 – 59: 3 Orkfians
Age not given: 4 Orkfians

Female Orkfians: 5
Male Orkfians: 67
Those who are unsure: 4

Locations:
Canada: 2 ——– USA: 17
Trinidad: 1 ——– Asia (unspecified): 1
Japan: 1 ——– Malaysia: 2
Phillipines: 1 ——– Singapore: 3
Australia: 5 ——– Israel: 2
Portugal: 1 ——- Malta: 1
Romania: 3 ——- Bulgaria: 1
Germany: 1 —— UK: 6
Netherlands: 10 —— Sweden: 14
Unspecified: 3 —— Norway: 1

I guess all this information just showed that there is no stereotypical Orkfian… School kids from the US are there fighting against teachers from Holland, business men against mums. People sitting yards from a sweltering beach are playing alongside those freezing their arses off but among all our differences the one thing the same is we love Orkfia..whichever version it is.

I’ll continue with more surveys in the future and who knows what else we will find out.

Why are you here?

The Orkfian Times3 comments

When Orkfia started in 2001 the internet was still a brave new world, Mr Average was coming around to using it for some things but it was still a bit of a gimmick. There was no Facebook, no Youtube and the phrase “I bought it on eBay” was still met with a puzzled expression.

The majority of people used the internet for fairly mundane things, either they were learning something or buying something. There were however a minority who had discovered it’s potential for socialising and having fun. Chatrooms were becoming popular along with simple online games. When Orkfia began, it’s players were excited by the idea of playing against real people and using gaming tactics not just against a computer simulation but having to use real human psychology.

Coming from an age of console games that had set conclusions and set paths for you to follow, Orkfia was a relatively new experience. You could make of the game what you wanted – time could be spent chatting on IRC to recruit people and making friends, or the more evil amongst us (me included!) spent time on there trying to work out enemies sleeping/drinking patterns to find a time best to attempt to kill their tribe. Being able to share your sucesses and failures with the wider community was part of the appeal and this was much more fun than the high score table on your playstation.

Orkfia was able to keep it’s popularity for a number of years but with people’s desires evolving faster than ever it has become a niche in a gigantic market. A lot of players were lost to games like World of Warcraft which builds even further on the principles started by games like Orkfia. Particularly in the last two or three years the internet has exploded into a hub of entertainment and social interaction. Gaming has even become mainstream with the majority of new games having some form of connecting with other people via the internet. Orkfia may have been one of the first fish to grow legs and walk on land but others saw what we were doing was cool and ran past us.

So I can’t help but wonder… with all the advances in gaming and the big commercial companies offering us everything our little gaming hearts could desire – why is anyone here at all? A text based game where we have to use our imagination to see our armies rather than seeing and hearing them – are our imaginations really that good? Some people say it is the community that keeps us together, and indeed many people from around the world have virtually grown up together against the backdrop of playing together on Orkfia as they shared their news of passing/failing their exams, a new job..new babies.

Yet there are new people joining all the time so it isn’t just a load of Orkfia veterans with rose-tinted glasses who won’t let go of the past. Something still attracts new players, maybe not in their hundreds and thousands but still a few are joining every week. Whilst some of these newbies become as much a part of the community as the established players a lot of players still have never logged onto IRC and don’t post on the forum. People do still play because of the gameplay.

I don’t know if we will ever get to the stage where thousands of people are playing Orkfia, personally i’m not sure if I would even like that. I think Orkfia does what it does very well. It’s a non commercial game with no ulterior motive, you can choose your level of involvment whether that be just a daily log in to tend your own tribe or actively recruiting a full alliance and enjoying the power of deciding which enemy tribes live or die.

Orkfia is also one of the few games you will ever play where you can choose to influence the future of the game and get involved at staffing level if that is what you want. Compared to the mammoth commercial games available it may be a speck of dust, but I think for at least a few hundred people of many different countries this game means more to them than any of the multi-million dollar games and that’s quite an achievement whichever way you look at it.
